Places and People

The next day was devoted to local people and places. Our tour in Arizona taught us many things. It was hard to believe that here in sandy and rocky land people could grow vegetables or anything else. However I guess their faith helped them be strong and healthy to overdue the hardships of the life. Nowadays there are schools and vocational courses here to teach people read, do math and understand nature. Local people keep the nature save and take care of it. Everyday life in this Holy place is filled with routine and shabby acts. However people don’t forget about the nature around them. Its creative and devastating power redeems from every single maladies and pains of physical and mental types. Breathtaking tour scenes of the Grand Canyon take away all ‘penny-worth and pound-foolish’ problems, gives you energy and makes your inner world wider and deeper. This is a real masterpiece of the nature. That is probably one of the reasons the Canyon in Arizona draws crowds of tourists who come here to absorb its air and leave it with peace in their minds.
Local people are handcrafting and trying to sell things. In the local shops we purchased handmade religious totems and Indian amulets which, as we had heard, could make us stronger, healthier and rich, purify our conscious and relieve from anxiety.
It took us five or six hours to get to the Grand Canyon National Park by car from La Quinta. However were warned in the hotel that we should be very careful. Most part of the state Arizona is a desert, and it is not the right place to sunbathe. We had to take hats, long-sleeve shirts made from cotton, long linen trousers and a bottle of water to protect ourselves against direct solar affect. Then all of these help us enjoy our tour. Thanks to the guide we knew many amusing stories about Arizona and Grand Canyon. Here on the bottom of the river Colorado a number of gold lovers were lying dead. They couldn’t survive without fresh water. Another story was about the professor Powell who was the first to describe the magnificent canyon. It happened in 1869.
